Is The Issue Of The Marina Over?

City Commission meeting to be held 8/7/2023 and I draw your attention to item 9.5.

“Resolution No. 178-23: A request by John K. Rice of Gunster, on behalf of 1525 North Flagler LLC, for a Class A Special Use Permit (with waivers) to allow for a dock that extends beyond 100 feet of the subject lot located at 1525 North Flagler Drive.”

A lot of information can be found in Background Information:

“Approval of a Class A Special Use Permit would allow the applicant to extend the dock an additional 182.3 feet to protect the marine environment (seagrasses). The total length of this proposed dock will total to 282.3 feet”

282.3 feet for a new dock. How long is 282.3 feet?

“The football playing field is 100 yards (300 feet) long.”  Dock is 17.7 feet short of a football field.

“The largest school buses tend to be 45 feet long”  6.2 school buses parked end to end.

“When it comes to semi truck dimensions, there’s a bit of variety. On average, semi trucks in the United States are around 72 feet”   3.92 semi trucks parked end to end.

Rail Road Box Car  “The outside of these boxcars is between 55 and 60 feet long”  so you have either 5.13 or 4.70 Box Cars parked end to end.

Let’s go up 282.3 feet.

One West Palm The 30-story towers are 426-feet or 14.2 feet per floor.

20 story building @ 14.2 = 284 feet. The dock is 1.7 feet shorter than a 20 story building.

Now picture a 20 story vertical building lying horizontally across the water.

Will the mayor will get his marina, one yacht at a time?
